Sustainability

We invite you to share our journey towards sustainability.

Our award-winning resort has always been renowned for our commitment to innovation, and that dynamic, trailblazing approach extends to our commitment to sustainability. As a sought-after international destination, we recognise the role we play in creating a more sustainable and fairer world for future generations.

While our environmental focus is paramount, we also embrace the social element of sustainability as we play an important role within our local community, as well as supporting the disadvantaged and vulnerable internationally.

Environmental and Social strategies

Towards a more sustainable and socially responsible way of life

Committed to enhancing the sustainability of every operation, we are excited to showcase our significant milestones in environmental and social strategies that shape a more sustainable future for all.

Energy Efficiency

We have achieved an ‘A’ Energy Efficient rating for building design and renovations, and the implementation of energy-efficient lighting. Our electrical installations are powered by 100% renewable green energy, while 90% of our boiler systems are powered by Biofuel made from ground olive biomass such as stones and pruning debris.

Single Use Plastics

Single-use plastic guestroom amenities have been eradicated, with all in-room provisions like toothbrushes being substituted with sustainably packaged and sourced bamboo alternatives. Additionally, we champion a circular economy by introducing Nordaq 500 premium filtered water systems, effectively eliminating single-use plastic bottles and the greenhouse gas emissions linked to bottled water transportation.

Organic Market Garden

Fresh ideas for sustainability and our passion for great food have come together with the creation of our own local organic farm-to-fork market garden, designed and cultivated by a local organic farmer with over 25 years’ experience, that now supplies premium produce, including seasonal vegetables and herbs to our restaurant kitchens.

Waste Management

We have achieved the efficient separation of waste streams for recycling glass, cardboard, paper waste and plastic waste.

We have also deployed LEANPATH’s tech-based food waste in our crew canteen and the kitchen that serves more than 1000 people a day, reducing our organic waste footprint.

Water Management

The hotel reduces its water footprint through operating a Green Cleaning policy, with a default policy of refreshing guest linens and towels every three days unless requested. We also analyze our water footprint and sets targets for reduction each year.

Sustainable Procurement

Our strategy with suppliers is aligned with our commitment to sustainable sourcing in our supply chain, giving priority local, regional, and national food and beverage suppliers that champion sustainability and ethics, as well as wholesalers that have implemented an HACCP plan to ensure proper traceability and sustainable origins of their products.

Reducing Carbon Emissions

Focus to reduce carbon emissions, through an annual calculation of Scope 1 and 2 Carbon Emissions and setting of reduction targets, while implementing an Environmental Management System based on the ISO14001 certification framework to ensure compliance with applicable national and international legislation.

Sustainability Ambassadors

We have established a Sustainability Ambassador team to drive change across our resort and help grow and maintain our company culture of responsible water and energy use, waste management, and reducing carbon emissions as well as involve our crew, guests, and community in our programme of Beach, Mountain, and River clean-ups.

Charitable Commitments

We have an established calendar of fundraising events for local, national, and international charities and consistently raise and donate over 100,000 euro a year to charities with whom we have meaningful, heartfelt connections, including World Vision, The Children’s Trust, Triple A Animal Welfare, and AECC, Spain’s national cancer charity.

Social Actions

Our social strategies embrace the environment we provide for guests, the positive working culture for our crew and the support of our local community and beyond internationally. We achieve thus through our progressive employment and workplace policies on Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion; and supporting local and international charities.
